After six years of its opening, the Malawi Raising charity of Madonna is all set to initiate the construction of 10 schools in the country. Moreover, the local community people will be running these schools, not the organization of Madonna.
The organizers revealed that the construction of the first school will commence from March 30 of this year in the area of Kasungu. This area lies about 80 miles away from Lilongwe’s capital. Furthermore, the organizers have assured to complete the construction of all the 10 schools by the end of June 2013. Raising Malawi has collaborated with the Non-Governmental Organization buildOn to get these schools constructed. The former will be providing a sum of whooping $300,000 to the NGO for development of these schools.
When asked about this noble cause, Madonna said that he had always kept this project as the top most priority in his life and he is happy to get support from buildOn to get this project done efficiently.
It is interesting to note that Raising Malawi had initially planned to build all-girls schools. But, they had to face several obstacles to accomplish their goal successfully. Many farmers had complaints against this project as they were moved off from their own land that this organization had intended to use for this project. Raising Malawi had to face a lot of problems to get the land for construction of these schools and there were also issues related to high costs of land and construction.
That is when new plans were proposed that were not only more practical, but were also supposed to help the organization in achieving their goals successfully. In fact, now the project aims at reaching out to almost double the number of children as targeted earlier, says Madonna. He further added that he has gained much more confidence in the past few years while struggling to get this project on path and is quite happy that he will be contributing to girl-child education.
Just for the information of our readers, Madonna has also adopted two girls from Malawi.
To talk about buildOn, the NGO has contributed to build up about 50 schools in the country and more than 427 schools all across the globe.
In an interview with Trevor Neilson, who is partnering the Global Philanthropy Group to direct this project, he said that is very important for a school to be run by the local community so as to make it successful. He made it clear that the local communities in Malawi would be running these schools and not Raising Malawi. Neilson also appreciated the efforts of Madonna despite so many obstacles and the setbacks that the superstar had to face in getting this project approved.
Global Philanthropy partnered Raising Malawi about an year ago. They replaced the Kabbalah Centre then. Neilson quoted that everyone expected Madonna to give after the problems associated with the plan earlier that the previous management team had. But instead, she came up with a project that is expected to reach out twice as many kids now.
